The fountain on Via Garibaldi, inaugurated in 1768 by the acting mayor Giovanni Spadaro, represents one of the first four public fountains in the municipality of Pedavoli.

In this structure, water gushed from the mouth of an apotropaic mask sculpted from green stone (pietra verde), positioned beneath a plaque bearing the following inscription:

Translation:
“The acting mayor Giovanni Spadaro, at public expense, built this fountain and the others derived from it for the use and delight of the citizens, having channeled a purer water supply and diverted its natural course through engineering and masonry works; and Ferdinando Mandarani, Bishop of Oppido and deeply beloved by the people of Pedavoli, so that the memory of this benefit may long endure, composed this commemorative inscription to be engraved upon this stone for posterity in the year 1768.”

“Whoever you may be, enjoy in happiness, drink in gratitude, depart in remembrance.”

This fountain was restored by the artist Macrì in November 1999, as indicated by the inscription carved into the basin—which is also crafted from green stone . While this addition enhances its uniqueness, it could mistakenly lead one to believe that the entire structure dates back to that period, whereas its remote origin in the year 1768 is indisputably documented.
