19. Portale palazzo Cordopatri
The portal of Palazzo Cordopatri (now Princi), located on Via Umberto I, displays an architectural composure where the keystone is surmounted by the face of a winged putto—a small angel. This figure, along with a few brackets spaced outward from the center of the arch, appears to support the balcony above.
The Palace was built by the Cordopatri family, who boast noble origins dating back to the Carolingian dynasty.
Giovanni Andrea Cordopatri was born in this palace on January 15, 1823. A man of great intellect, high moral standards, and exceptional intellectual capability, he was a profound connoisseur of the Greek and Latin classics and mastered diverse disciplines ranging from mathematics and physics to medicine and jurisprudence. He passed away at the very young age of 27.
Inside the palace, the staircase is also crafted from green stone (pietra verde), with its upper flights supported by columns made of the same green stone.
